We can, again, use jQuery and the dimensions plugin to get our browser window’s width. If we can get our hands on the exact pixel width of the browser window, we can use that number in the width attribute of the image and control its size while retaining the ratio. With the img tag, we can set “width” and “height” attributes to control the image’s size. In order to control the size of an image displayed on the screen without literally altering the file itself is to display it inline with the tag. While the first attempt did a decent job, it failed at the most fundamental level: it wasn’t “resizeable”. The above code will hide the image on the page, but snag it’s “src” attribute and apply it as a background to the body element (via its unique ID “page-body”). 'backgroundImage': 'url(' + $source +')', Var $source = $("img.source-image").attr("src") Here is how I went about this first approach. Pretty good solution I thought, even if it isn’t technically resizeable, since you can’t set the size of a CSS background-image. If applied to the body tag, this will fill the screen nicely with no scroll bars. Large browser windows will reveal more of the picture and smaller ones less of the picture. It also can be centered, so I figured this would be good enough. This will fill the screen edge-to-edge if the image is big enough. Well my first thought was that this really needs to be a CSS background-image. It also meets all the other requirements: no scrollbars, and retains pixel ratio. It doesn’t do it “on the fly”, but it does work. Go ahead and resize your browser window around and notice how the image will resize to fit. First, check out the finished project, then I’ll show you how it was done:įinished Project: What’s The Weather? Offline Ultimately, I found a pretty good solution and we turned it into a pretty neat little project. But of course this is just the kind of challenge I enjoy, so I set about to thinkin’. Also, comes in on the page as an inline tag. Also, doesn’t cause scrollbars, just cuts off vertically if it needs to. Also, make sure it retains its ratio (doesn’t stretch weird). Also, have it resize larger or smaller as the browser window changes. Is there a way to make a background image resizeable? As in, fill the background of a web page edge-to-edge with an image, no matter the size of the browser window. My friend Richard recently came to me with a simple CSS question: If you are looking for how to do FULL SCREEN BACKGROUND IMAGE, go here.

It’s a call to tap into our inner strength and resilience, to face our challenges head-on. In runic divination, Nauthiz often signifies a time of need or hardship. So, let’s explore how Nauthiz is interpreted in these contexts. Now, I must preface this section by saying that while I don’t personally believe in divination or magic, this is a popular topic and I have looked into it. Elder Futhark Quizĭo you want to test your knowledge of Elder Futhark runes? Then this quiz is perfect for you!Īrmando Olivo Martín del Campo, via Wikimedia Commons Lastly, it’s a reminder that sometimes, it’s through our greatest needs and challenges that we find our greatest strengths. With its symbolism of need and necessity, the rune plays a crucial role in this journey. It’s about facing challenges head-on, learning from them, and emerging stronger. In addition, the second aett, where Nauthiz finds its place, is a journey of self-discovery and transformation. Consequently, Nauthiz, with its associations with need and resilience, reflects these themes, offering a glimpse into the values and beliefs of the ancient Germanic peoples. Known for his vigilance and foresight, Heimdall embodies the protective and resilient energies that are reflected in the runes of his aett. Moreover, Heimdall, the Watchman of the Gods, is a central figure in this aett. This aett, or family of runes, carries themes of resilience, transformation, and the cyclical nature of life. Nauthiz belongs to the second aett of the Elder Futhark, a group of eight runes associated with the god Heimdall. Nauthiz, with its associations with need and resilience, reflects these themes, offering a glimpse into the values and beliefs of the ancient Germanic peoples. The Watchman of the Gods, Heimdall, is a central figure in Norse mythology, embodying vigilance, resilience, and the protective power of foresight. It’s a reminder of the strength and determination that lie within us, even in the face of adversity.Įmil Doepler, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons The rune is also linked to resilience and the human capacity to overcome difficulties. It represents the challenges and necessities of life, reminding us that hardship is often a catalyst for growth and transformation. This rune is traditionally associated with need, hardship, and constraint. Now, let’s delve into the symbolic heart of Nauthiz. In Old Norse, for example, it was pronounced as a hard “n.” Symbolic Meaning of the Nauthiz Rune In the Proto-Germanic language, Nauthiz represented the sound “n,” as in “need.” As Germanic languages evolved, so did the pronunciation of this rune. However, the traditional form remains the most recognized and used. Some inscriptions show the rune with more curved lines or with the lines intersecting at different points. Historically, variations of Nauthiz’s design have been found. It’s composed of one vertical line, crossed by a shorter line around the middle, slightly at an angle down towards the right. Visually, Nauthiz is a simple yet powerful rune. This gives us a glimpse into the mindset of the ancient Germanic peoples, showing us that they recognized the role of hardship and necessity in life. Rooted in the Proto-Germanic “*nauþiz,” it’s associated with need, hardship, and constraint. The etymology of “Nauthiz” is intriguing. Researchers have discovered etchings on a variety of items, ranging from monumental runestones to simple everyday objects. People used the Elder Futhark across Europe, reaching from Scandinavia to the British Isles, and extending as far south as Italy. The name “Nauthiz” comes from Old Norse, translating roughly to “need” or “necessity.” Nauthiz, the tenth rune in this alphabet, is the second rune in the second aett, associated with the guardian god Heimdall. Let’s start at the beginning, with the Elder Futhark, the oldest form of the runic alphabets. Either way they're indicators of what's ging on. They may be running an Elements service or they may be doing something else triggered by what Elements is doing. Sort by file and you may see Windows programs like svchost reading the same files. If it is, you can open up the Resource manager and look at the disk section and see what files they are reading - especially image files and catalog files. Is organizer or autoanalyzer reading and maybe writing a lot of disk? If Windows 7 is like Vista You can find out by opening the task manager and adding the read and write I/O bytes columns and see. IMO Elements is terrible software from a performance and resource usage point of view. For all I know it will still be running in January unless I turn all the tagging and face stuff off - and even then it may still keep going. I thought it had finished processing my images but it has started up again. I am also trying to figure out what organizer 9 is doing to burn so much cpu. When I see the Updating window there's no indication that Thumbnail generation process is going on. Thanks for the suggestion, but I've already turned these options off. Hopefully this should resolve the performance issue you are seeing.īy the way, does you Thumbnail generation process still going on (If it is in process, you would see "Generating thumbnails" on the bottom status bar)? The problem is that I've no idea when Elements is going to run update. It's interesting what might happen tomorrow :)Īfter unistalling PSE9, things were a bit better for a bit, but now it's slow again. I've just optimized the catalogue and managed to open Elements 7 without any problems. Also, I upgraded my camera a few weeks ago, so RAW files are a bit bigger, but jpgs are a bit smaller. I started trying out PSE9 last week, deleted lots of pictures. I haven't much time to do a lot on my laptop recently. Lance Rogers (a group admin) edited this topic ages ago. Have you recently added a bunch of pictures to your machine that Adobe is trying to add to the catalog? Optimizing the catalog is a good step.ĭo you see any spinning hourglass in the lower left indicating that PSE is building thumbnails or any other indication of what PSE might be working on in the catalog? It would be helpful to have some idea of what might be pegging the resources. See additional troubleshooting here: /cps/405/kb405398.html There could be an issue if you recently changed printers to something that does not support postscript. Have you recently added any print drivers to your machine? Unfortunately, I can't add more memory because I did this a year ago. You can put desktop shortcuts on your desktop, that will open only editor, and one to only open organizer, and that is what most of us do, go to the program File for 86 and find adobe then the ver no folder and you should be able to find the exe file and right click and pick the line that says copy shortcut to desktop. I added another GB to my laptop and that improved the speed. One other thing you can do, is add more memory to your laptop! If it is a new laptop you may have lots of memory, but laptops 3 to 4 yrs old only have around 2 GB. I admit I've never done it myself but dividing one large catalog into smaller ones should help - not sure how it's done, though. It can take a long time - best to start it running then go and do something else. Try to Optimize your catalog (File > Catalog > select your catalog and then 'Optimize'). I'd guess it's doing something else in the background or searching for images that have moved or been deleted. Originally posted at 9:57AM, 6 October 2010 PDT I think there are around 7700 pictures in the catalogue and about 15Gb free space on the disk. When I close Elements CPU usage is back to normal. If I open Editor first, occasionally I can run Organiser without big problems. It's running very very slow and CPU Usage is 100%. I don't know what happened to my laptop (Windows7), but it's almost impossible to do anything in Organiser.
